DESIGN
GW Shelter Solutions can provide a complete design service for your shelter project. We work closely with a local design company who specialises in street furniture and product design.

The lead designer has previous experience and extensive product knowledge from when working for Queensbury Shelters Ltd. Our partnership continues to flourish, allowing GW Shelter Solutions to continually evaluate and improve the product range whilst looking at new shelter designs.

Using the Autodesk Product Design Suite software, our CAD files are modelled in both 2D and 3D. We also produce 3D visualisations to establish design concepts which can be presented for client approval and sign-off.

Our extensive knowledge of materials, finishes and construction techniques ensures high-quality and durable design solutions are delivered for every project.

INSTALLATION
GW Shelter Solutions’ shelters are installed across the UK from our depot based just north of Portsmouth. Using our experienced sub contract fixing teams, based in Hampshire and Nottinghamshire, we are able to attend any site irrespective of its location.

Our fixing crews are overseen by the Managers who are all qualified to Supervisor level of the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991.

The shelter fixing crews all have at least one member qualified to Operative level of the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991. This provides qualification to undertake the following:

  • Excavation in the road / highway
  • Excavation, back-filling and reinstatement – construction layers
  • Reinstatement – hot and cold lay bituminous materials
  • Reinstatement of concrete slabs
  • Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways

We operate 7.5t or 12 tonne flatbed lorries with a front mounted HIAB crane and all the crews have been trained to install the shelters safely and with customer care paramount.

Risk assessment and method statements (RAMS)

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM Regulations) are intended to ensure that health and safety issues are properly considered during a project’s development so that the risk of harm to those who build, use and maintain structures is reduced.

Generic RAMS documents can be produced prior to any installation and depending on the site conditions and the type of project that’s being undertaken, more specific RAMS can be produced on request.

All Site Operatives hold CSCS cards.

GROUNDWORKS
GW shelter Solutions can provide all the groundworks necessary when installing anything from smaller shelters to extended lengths or widths of shelters.

All of our site operatives are qualified to Operative level of the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991. At least one operative per site will always hold this certificate, allowing us to carry out the following work in accordance with the NRSWA 1991.

We can carry out the following work in accordance with the NRSWA 1991:

  • Excavation in the road / highway
  • Excavation, back-filling and reinstatement – construction layers
  • Reinstatement – hot and cold lay bituminous materials
  • Reinstatement of concrete slabs
  • Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways

Prior to any ground works commencing we will scan the area using a cable avoidance tool to establish if there are any underground services present.  Where services are isolated, the ground is always carefully excavated by hand to expose them fully.

Shelter foundation work generally involves saw cutting through the reinstatement, excavating the ground to dimensions stated in the foundation plans, concreting the shelter legs into the pockets and reinstating to match the existing footpath.

We can also complete other ground work which may include:

  1. Fully paved hard stands
  2. Building retaining walls
  3. Build-outs where existing land may fall away
  4. Making good smaller areas following road traffic accidents or shelter removals.

In addition to the smaller shelter foundations, we are experienced in the installation of larger foundation work associated with longer shelters or walkways which may mean working in conjunction and co-ordinating with main contractors or other contractors.

Our experience of installing shelters over the last 25 years has enabled us to become flexible in our approach to installation and ensure minimal disruption on site whilst maintaining the highest quality of installation and reinstatement
