GROUNDWORKS

GW shelter Solutions provide all the bus shelter groundworks necessary when installing anything from smaller shelters to extended lengths or widths of shelters.

All of our site operatives are qualified to Operative level of the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991. At least one operative per site will always hold this certificate, allowing us to carry out the following work in accordance with the NRSWA 1991.

We can carry out the following bus shelter groundworks in accordance with the NRSWA 1991:

  • Excavation in the road / highway
  • Excavation, back-filling and reinstatement – construction layers
  • Reinstatement – hot and cold lay bituminous materials
  • Reinstatement of concrete slabs
  • Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways

Prior to any bus stop groundworks commencing we will scan the area using a cable avoidance tool to establish if there are any underground services present. Where services are isolated, the ground is always carefully excavated by hand to expose them fully.

Shelter foundation work generally involves saw cutting through the reinstatement, excavating the ground to dimensions stated in the foundation plans, concreting the shelter legs into the pockets and reinstating to match the existing footpath.

We can also complete other ground work which may include:

  1. Fully paved hard stands
  2. Building retaining walls
  3. Build-outs where existing land may fall away
  4. Making good smaller areas following road traffic accidents or shelter removals

In addition to the smaller bus shelter foundations, we are experienced in the installation of larger foundation work associated with longer shelters or walkways which may mean working in conjunction and co-ordinating with main contractors or other contractors.

Our experience of installing bus shelters over the last 40 years has enabled us to become flexible in our approach to installation and ensure minimal disruption on site whilst maintaining the highest quality of installation and reinstatement

Here’s what our customers think…

“Our Council took a long time to find a supplier that could provide a good quality shelter, and we are delighted to work with GW Shelters.  Since 2021 they have installed seven bus shelters and supplied us with spare panels to fit our existing shelters.  Although we are based in Northumberland physical distance has been no problem for site visits.  Our experience has been that GW Shelters provides the right product, a seamless installation and a good after sales service.”

Stephen Humphrey, Ashington Town Council

“Glen has always been incredibly helpful and will travel to Swansea for site surveys, to ensure the most appropriate product is ordered and installed.  The ordering process is quick and easy and shelters are always installed within set timescales – sometimes even before! I wish to extend our thanks to Glen and all the team at GW Shelters and hope our working relationship continues for many years to come!”
